Book This Charming AirBnB in San Fran

With nearly two dozen neighborhoods to choose from within its 7-by-7 mile span, San Francisco boasts an endless opportunity to find the perfect lodging spot. The great thing about San Francisco, is that every hill, street, and cliff provides a beautiful view and an unforgettable experience.

If you want to be close to the action without depleting your bank accounts, Airbnb has endless options for convenient and safe locations that also make it easy to get from point A to point B. Enter “Casa Roja.”

The Neighborhood

Located in San Fran’s Laurel Heights neighborhood, Casa Roja is the downstairs unit of a luxurious and remodeled two-story Victorian home. Tucked just behind the main street with the perfect amount of privacy, it is just steps from some of the city’s most iconic bars, restaurants, and landmarks (including the very regal Painted Ladies below):

Having lived in San Fran for nearly three decades, the Airbnb host knew the ins-and-outs of the city like the back of his hand, and provided a run down of the most popular places to visit and their proximity to Casa Roja. Less than a mile away was Golden Gate Park (0.9 miles), Presidio (0.7 miles) Baker and China Beach (1 mile), the Palace of Fine Arts and Marina Green (1 mile), and downtown San Fran (a 10 minute drive). As an international tech hub, metro transportation isn’t far if Uber or Lyft isn’t in the budget. Bus lines 38, 43, and 31 are two short blocks away which go to all major tourist attractions.

Well before arrival, the gracious hosts had provided more than enough information to make my group and I feel at ease. We knew what times to arrive, and how to get through the double gates leading to the house (pictured below) as well as the front door. With a personal-guide to all things San Fran, we were able to plan out our stay well in advance. Check-in time was flexible, and if any problems arose, the hosts were a phone call away.

During our stay, they were in the process of moving into the upstairs unit, which can be viewed in the photos below:

The Amenities

The downstairs unit was comprised of three bedrooms. There was master bedroom containing a King-sized bed and a sauna with room for one-to-two people, one directly inside the front entryway with a futon and a twin bed, and the other just off the back patio featuring a high-end twin bed, perfect for seclusion and relaxation.

The living room had additional options for sleeping with a large sectional that converted into a comfy queen-sized bed. While there were three of us, these accommodations were enough to sleep up to eight comfortably.

Directly off the living room was a full bathroom containing a marble vanity, one sink, a fully-functioning shower and bathtub, and heated tile floors. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, and clean towels were provided in case we forgot ours amidst the flurry of packing. (There is also a Target and a Trader Joe’s within two blocks of the home).

After a long day of travel from coast to coast, we immediately took to the kitchenette where there were individually-wrapped granola bars and other snacks waiting on the counter.

We helped ourselves to one and popped a K-cup in the Keurig to help us power through the rest of the afternoon and evening — we had big plans. We also noticed a multi-functional indoor and outdoor grill on the patio that would be perfect for s’mores and barbeques throughout the city’s steady weather conditions.

While we unpacked, we flipped through the comprehensive home and neighborhood guide that was neatly provided to us in a binder on the dining room table. Since there wasn’t an oven or stove located in the basement unit, we appropriately chose delivery from one of Chinatown’s highly coveted sushi joints and set down at the six-chair dining room table (which extends to accommodate 8 people).

With plans to experience San Francisco’s nightlife, we hopped into an Uber and drove to the Mission neighborhood for cocktails and dancing with friends. After hours of roaming the sidewalks, we made our way back and hopped in the sauna to warm our feet on the heated bathroom tiles before we settled in for bed.

The neighborhood itself was completely silent through the night which is unheard of in San Francisco. The next morning we woke up and made the short walk to the Starbucks located inside of the Target for some breakfast sandwiches, and returned to the home to sip our coffee outside on the back patio. The temperature was a solid 60 degrees and perfect for lounging out in our flannel pajamas.

The next adventure up on our docket was Alcatraz Island, and we left the house feeling energized and well-rested to face al day full of hiking and exploring.
